This is a group of a variety of lampshades that needed liner replacements. Each shade was unique in design, shape and construction technique. Being able to restore lampshade liners, extends the life of historic fabric lampshade covers and shade designers. The five liner repairs were from two different customers.

These three shades were genuinely vintage lampshades.
Vintage Lampshade Liner Repairs
The mint green hexagon shade was originally done by “Diane Studios.” The center washer of the top spider wire was imprinted with “Diane Studios.” The silk shade had a tag that read “Hand Sewn for Beaze of Brooklyn By Diane.” I have restored several of Diane’s lampshade wires and they are very high quality frames. On this hexagon shade, I only had to replace the liner. Diane Studios lampshades are of the highest quality hand sewn construction and so meticulously done. Even the trim is hand sewn on. I replaced the liner and hand sewed the trim back on to maintain the quality of original construction. I searched for “Beaze of Brooklyn” and no results turned up. I can only guess this shade to be 80+ years old.

This pair of vintage pleated shades also needed the liners replaced. It was obvious they were historic shades. The washer of the top spider wire was imprinted with “Westwood.” The pleated covers were delicate fabric and the trim was applied with an adhesive. The bias trim was not salvageable. I was able to remove the trim, but had to slightly mend the shades. I used a bias trim with a braid overlay to trim the shades. The new trim finish blended well with the vintage pleated fabric shades.

The next two shades were from another customer.

The small boudoir cut corner is one of my favorites. I did not have any problems with the liner repair and was able to replace the original trim.

The medium size table lampshade liner repair was challenging. There was a bent rib wire. I contacted my customer to let her know I was not going to be able to get a clean finish, but she wanted me to do the best I could and proceed with the liner restore. The bent wire side of the shade was going to the back of the lamp. All in all, it came out better than I expected.
