Pleated Lampshades Shredding Like Paper

The slightly belled lampshade frames are very pretty with a scalloped top and bottom wire. This pair of pleated covered lampshades is shredding, just like paper. It is hard to believe it is fabric.

Pleated Lampshades Shredding Like Paper

These are two of three identical shades I have restored this year. All three have had a shredding cover and liner. None of them have been dirty or stained.

I am recovering these two pleated lampshades with a flat finish. The new fabric cover will be an ivory creme color with a shantung slub finish. I restored this identical frame earlier this year but recovered it with a pleated finish.

I will post the finished lampshades along with the restored pleated shade from earlier this year. I am anxious to see how the same frames look with different finishes.

The lamp base will last forever but lampshades deteriorate over time. This old, stained, tearing vintage lampshade with beautiful red velvet and old gold trim was a beautiful shade at one time These large drum shades with a scalloped frame bottom were trimmed to match the lamp base. The lamp belonged to my customers’ mother.

I was able to remove the trim around the top to be used on the restored shade. The bottom trim is too discolored and don’t feel it would be a nice finish on a new cover. If the trim would have been a dark color, it would not show the discoloration as much.

This is not only a SWEETHEART Lamp but the proceeds will be donated to a local animal rescue organization “Not Too Tabby” (Woozez) in Canton, Ohio. Not Too Tabby has a resale shop to help raise funds to spay, neuter and rescue animals in our local area. They also take in animals that have been left at the door who need medical attention.

I cannot think of a more precious gift for all. This lamp is in auction on Ebay.

The lamp base was a donation without a lampshade. I fitted a shade to the original harp on the ceramic lamp base. The base is in mint condition. There are no chips or cracks of any kind.

There are no markings on the base to indicate when it was made. I suspect it to be from the 50”s 60’s era. The closest similar lamps I could find were in the “Andy Griffith Show.”

The lampshade frame is a “Classic By Diane” quality frame. I used cream charmeuse silk for the shade cover. The trim on the top has a rose trim underneath a sage green and ecru trim. The rose shows up when the light is on.

LAMP SIZE: This is a small boudoir lamp. The higher it sits, the prettier the lamp is. On a tall chest or shelf, it is absolutely beautiful. I also think it would be so pretty as a light on a step landing going up to an upstairs.

The styrene plastic liner was deteriorating on this wood accordion lampshade I very carefully removed the wood cover and replaced the plastic liner.

The cover was very brittle but survived the restoration project. I did not see the completed project, but my customer was pleased to be able to continue to use her favorite lamp and shade. The shade sits on a dog figurine lamp base.

Over time, sunlight will fade any color shade, but it is most obvious on a black shade. This A-frame contemporary lampshade use to be black. I really wasn’t sure when my customer brought it to me.

My client has a large brass ornate lamp base that did not have a lampshade. It is very difficult to match a shade to a lamp with no shade. I had this lampshade frame in house.

My customer brought the material they wanted to use for a shade for this base. The fabric was a very gorgeous silk olive green shantung. Their silk fabric has so much texture. What a beautiful accent light.

I used a creme silk charmeuse for the liner. The creme gives green a warm effect when the light is on.

Crown Victorian Lampshade without fringe. I could not have been more pleasantly surprised with the lampshade without fringe on the original lamp base.

The lamp base is a beautiful crystal base that belonged to this lady’s mother. The lamp base is part of a set of a three piece lighting set. Their are two matching hurricane crystal lamps.

My customers’ home is a more modern decor but this lovely crystal lighting set was her mothers. The lighting set is more than 60 years old. When the couple brought the lamp base to view the base with the lampshade, it was wrapped ever so delicately as not to damage the hanging crystals.

I cannot say how heart warming of a feeling it is to preserve something so precious to a client.

This is one of two Victorian Crown lampshades that are progress. There are many styles and shapes of Victorian Crown Shades. The shape of the lampshade frames are so elegant and shapely. They are so specific in style, as to say, there is nothing “Contemporary” about them.

This shade belongs to a couple in which the gentleman loves the victorian style but the lady is traditional / contemporary. They have asked me to restore the shade but without the 6” fringe. Removing the fringe from this shade drastically reduces the depth and finished look on this shade.

We agreed to restore this shade but not to complete the bottom edge until we see how the lampshade looks on the lamp base. This is the restored silk lampshade without any trim.

Tomorrow is our appointment to see how the shade looks on the original lamp base without the fringe. I will post updates as the shade draws to a finished project.

Crown Victorian Lampshade Frame Repair / Restore / OHIO

Victorian Crown Lampshade Wire Repair. This shade is in the process of being restored. The original fabric was seriously damaged. The crown and bottom scallops were covered with lace and the center of the frame was a solid fabric. A very pretty delicate looking design.

The entire frame was wrapped with a cotton twill. As I was removing the twill from the middle scalloped wire, six of the eight wires were detached. The only thing holding the center scallop wire to the rest of the frame was the twill wrap.

I was not expecting to have to do frame repair but you never know what condition the wire is in until all the fabric is removed. I cleaned the wire and reattached the broken wires back in place and painted the entire frame.

Now I can start the fabric restoration. A project in process!
