The ivory deteriorating shade has been restored with a gold silk cover and cream liner with purple and metallic gold trim.  The shade color and trim look like royalty.

The light has a warm golden glow when lit.

This floor lamp is stunning!  Opposite the hanging shade is approximately a 4 foot long gold tassel.  What a beautiful piece!

Lampshade Liner Repair, Canton, Ohio

Liners deteriorate, over time, due to light bulbs.  The lamp base will last forever, but the shade will not.  Often times, the lampshade cover will not be damaged but the liner will shred just by touching it.   Once the liner starts to tear it falls apart.

I am able to remove the original trim, replace the liner and re-attach the original trim.  The lampshade looks no different, maybe just a brighter light.

This shade is beautifully done.  The pleating on the bottom of the shade is unique and adds a nice accent to the shade.  All I did was replace the liner.

I strongly suggest using the EcoSave light bulbs.  They do not give off the heat that causes damage to the lampshade liners.

Slightly Belled Lampshade Restored with Cottonwood Fabric Finish

Completely restored lampshade.  Cottonwood fabric finish.

I did not get a picture of the original, but it was a pleated muslin fabric.  The liner was gone and the cover was deteriorating.

This shade sits on a lamp base that has 2 bulbs that sit horizontally.  Standard light bulbs sit close to the fabric and cause damage.  I have order socket reducers that allow the use of a candlelight bulb.  The candlelight bulbs come in as large as 60 watts but are smaller in size.

For a lamp base that has horizontal bulbs, socket reducer adapters and candlelight bulbs are less damaging and safer.

Accent Lampshade Lighting, NE Ohio

This is the second small accent light I have done for this customer.  The ivory oval shade was replaced with sage silk fabric.

To make such a big change in fabric color is risky, but the first one came out so sweet, we had to do the second shade.

The lamp is a small accent light.   This ivory bell lampshade was not damaged, but my customer wanted to add color to her room.  She wanted to replace the ivory shade with a sage fabric.   She actually had two, but I wanted to be sure she liked one before replacing the second shade cover.

To go from ivory to a dark color is a big change.

We used a sage charmeuse silk  for the fabric cover and a creme charmeuse  silk liner.  Green lighting is cool.  The creme liner, instead of white, brought warmth to the lighting.

The new cover did exactly what she wanted it to do.  It added color and pulled the room together.  We are replacing the  second ivory shade with the same finish.

Oval Lampshade Restored with Black Linen Styrene

Black Out Lampshade Restore

Black Lampshade Restore

The blackout black oval lampshade has been restored with black linen styrene.  Black out shades only allow light through the top and bottom of the shade.  It is very minimal light.   High watt bulbs damaged the shade.

The linen also allows quite a bit of light through the shade.

The shade is so elegant and rich looking.

Custom Lampshade Restoration, Marble Paper Styrene Shade

The light from this old lampshade was very dim from the aging process.  The original shade was light weight to accommodate the lamp fitting that it hangs from.    It is actually a hanging shade.

Ceiling Hanging Light Restored with Ivory Linen

The shade for this ceiling hanging wood light was restored with styrene backed ivory linen.  Styrene is plastic with fabric laminated to the plastic.   Some people call them hard backed lampshades or hard shelled lampshades.

The original shade was aging and getting weak from the concentrated heat of light bulbs.

American Flag Theme Lampshade, Porch Light

I  put this American theme lampshade on my front porch light.  It is just a cotton fabric shade and I am not sure how long it will hold up in the outdoors.   The lampshade was made in 1991 when my shade business was “Lampshade Gallery.”   The shade has been  kept in a box for all these years.

American Flag Theme Porch Light

In the early 90’s, I made an assortment of lampshades.   People did not want to buy my theme shades but wanted me to fix theirs.  That is how I got into lampshade restoration.

This particular old (new) candlelight lampshade is scotch guarded,  but it is still outside.  I did not plan to use the shade as a porch light.   The shade I make intentionally for outside,  will have to be made with outdoor fabric and the wire will need to be treated so as not to rust.

I used a socket reducer so I could use a 25 watt candlelight bulb.  It is not meant to be a bright porch light but an accent piece.

BLACK SHADE, BLACK OUT LAMPSHADE RESTORE

A black-out lampshade only allows light through the top and bottom of the shade, limiting the lighting.  No light shows through the actual shade.   They are pretty shades just not very good lighting.

Lampshade Black Out Shade

Black, Black Out Lampshade Restore

The biggest problem with black out shades is the minimal light.  Often higher watt bulbs are used to generate more light.  The higher watt bulbs damage the shade.

This shade is being restored with black linen which will allow light through the shade.   Next weekend I will post the restored black linen shade.
